111 become US citizens at Mount Rushmore

MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL (AP) — People from about 40 nations became U.S. citizens during a naturalization ceremony at Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota on Flag Day.

MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL (AP) — People from about 40 nations became U.S. citizens during a naturalization ceremony at Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota on Flag Day.

The event Thursday featured 111 people swearing allegiance to the U.S. They originally came from countries as far as Somalia and the Ukraine.

The ceremony was the culmination of a year of work in which the aspiring citizens studied the Constitution and U.S. government and learned the Pledge of Allegiance. At the conclusion, the new citizens were given the opportunity to register to vote and get a U.S. passport.
