Alan Greenway has been diagnosed with leukemia, a type of cancer. Chad Greenway confirmed the matter Tuesday evening to The Daily Republic.
Greenway has missed part of the Vikings’ voluntary organized team activities in the last month because of what head coach Leslie Frazier called “a serious family matter.”
Greenway, a Mount Vernon native, has spent six seasons in the NFL. Each year since he’s been drafted, he’s participated in a two-day summer football/basketball camp in Mitchell at Joe Quintal Field and at Mitchell High School.
Last year, 250 to 300 campers from third to 10th grade attended the camp. Greenway teaches the fundamentals at his annual camp and has brought Vikings offensive lineman John Sullivan each of the past two years.
