According to media reports, the issue was first discussed by commissioners a couple months ago after receiving a letter from a Spearfish resident.
Dale Donat, who was an emergency responder in North Dakota for 16 years, had concerns that rural addresses were not posted along access roads.
Lead City Administrator Mike Stahl favors having a standard to which businesses and homeowners must adhere. Stahl is captain of the Lead Volunteer Fire Department and president of Lawrence County Search and Rescue.
The county is moving forward with an ordinance requiring the signage.
