SPEARFISH (AP) — The city of Spearfish will install a structure at the Maurice intake to allow for incremental flows to be released downstream Spearfish Creek.
Public works director Cheryl Johnson says tells the media that the city has been working with the engineers to come up with a design.
The city will then work with the Forest Service, the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Johnson hopes to bid the project and begin construction this summer.
The structure will make sure a certain amount of water is released to provide additional flow in the downstream portion of Spearfish Creek toward the city's hydroelectric plant.
She says that will enhance the scenic value of the creek and improve the fishery.
