According to media reports, hail and winds gusting up to 80 mph damaged homes and vehicles in the region late Saturday and early Sunday.
The meida reports that a storm destroyed one barn and damaged other buildings on a ranch near Dupree. People attending a high school rodeo in the town took shelter in campers on the rodeo grounds.
In southwest South Dakota, authorities say lighting might have started a fire that destroyed a home and prompted the evacuation of nearby residents.
