MANDAN, N.D. — The Mitchell Legion baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Mandan, N.D. Saturday in Mandan.
Mitchell fell 12-10 in game one and suffered a 10-0 setback in the nightcap.
Matt Larson took the loss in relief for Mitchell, allowing five runs in one inning. He went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored.
Josh Schmidt started for Mitchell and allowed seven runs, only two of which were earned.
“We had an error and then a good double play chance that we only got one out,” coach Luke Norden said. “Then it just kind of snowballed, it’s just one of those things that happens every once in a while.”
Schmidt had four RBIs in the contest while his brother Jared Schmidt went 2-for-5.
Lakin Neugebauer, Kirby Fuerst and Zach Bennett all had two hits in the game as well.
“We’ve had a much better approach at the plate lately,” Norden said. “They weren’t swinging at bad pitches and they drove in runs. The losses didn’t show the effort our guys had.”
Norden said after a five-game weekend played away from home his team looked tired in the 10-0 loss.
“We just got down early and had trouble,” Norden added.
Neugebauer took the loss in the second game and the team was held to three total hits.
Mitchell’s record sits at 8-6 and the team takes on Watertown in a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Watertown.
