MANDAN, N.D. — Jared Schmidt went 3-for-8 with a triple and seven RBIs in a Mitchell Legion baseball split with Minot, N.D., Friday in Mandan, N.D.
Mitchell won game one 12-5 but lost the second game 8-7.
In the first game, Seth Cavanaugh got the win in relief for Mitchell, retiring all nine batters he faced and striking out three.
Evan Mastel was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Alex Herrick added two hits in the victory.
“Our approach at the plate was very good all day long,” Mitchell coach Luke Norden said.
Schmidt took the loss in game two. He pitched 2 2/3 innings as Mandan got the win with the help of two errors in the final inning from Mitchell.
Mastel reached base all four times in the nightcap, going 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Derek Miller also recorded two hits for Mitchell.
Mitchell led 5-0 early in game two and had two runners left on base in the fifth and sixth innings with the game tied.
“We had opportunities to score but we just couldn’t get the hits we were getting earlier in the game,” Norden said.
Mitchell’s record moved to 8-4 and the team has a doubleheader with Mandan, N.D., set for 1 p.m. today in Mandan, N.D.
