Super tournament set for SD AA boys, girls hoops

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — South Dakota's High School Activities Association is combining the Class AA boys and girls state basketball tournaments beginning in 2016, with Sioux Falls hosting the first event.

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — South Dakota's High School Activities Association is combining the Class AA boys and girls state basketball tournaments beginning in 2016, with Sioux Falls hosting the first event.

According to media reports, it will be the first time that South Dakota boys and girls basketball tournaments will be staged at the same time at a common site.

Rapid City will host the combined tournament in 2017. The activities association will compare revenue and other factors at the two sites before choosing future locations for the so-called super tournament.

The Class A and B tournaments still will be separated by gender and spread among other communities.
