Mitchell pop drive set for Monday

Mitchell teener and Legion baseball players will be taking part in their annual Mitchell Baseball Coca-Cola Pop Drive Monday in Mitchell.

Players will load pop from 5:15 to 5:30 p.m. and sell until 8 p.m. The kids will team up in pairs in their jerseys and hats selling Coke, Diet Coke, Mello Yello, Sprite and water.

Gregory to hold wrestling camp

There will be a youth wrestling camp June 13-14 at the Gregory auditorium.

Sturgis High School wrestling coach Steve Keszler will be the instructor, and the camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.

The camp will be split into two groups, including first- through sixth-graders and seventh-graders through seniors in high school.

Cost is $40 and lunch will be provided. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. on June 13 before the start of camp. Contact Kurt Stukel at 830-2197 for more information.

Hanson High School to host basketball camp

Shane Warwick, a Castlewood native, and the Hanson Basketball Clinic are having a camp July 18-19 at Hanson School.

Warwick was a two-time all-conference player at Northern State and has coached nine years of college basketball. For the last eight years, he has focused on player development with elementary, middle and high school athletes. He has also worked with college programs and individual college and professional athletes.

There are a limited number of spots available for the camp, which costs $106 and is for boys and girls in grades seven through 12.

The camp runs from 6 to 9 p.m. July 18 and 9 a.m. to noon July 19. Athletes will receive Warwick workout T-shirt and shorts.

Longtime manager Lasorda has ‘mild’ heart attack

NEW YORK (AP) — Retired Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tom Lasorda was hospitalized after having a “mild” heart attack while in New York for the Major League Baseball draft.

The team said Tuesday that doctors inserted a stent to repair a blocked artery in Lasorda’s heart.

The 84-year-old Hall of Famer became ill Monday while in town to represent the club at the draft.

He was in stable condition and resting comfortably.
