LETTER: One-way streets are not logical for city

To the Editor:
It happened again last week. I was in the left-hand lane on a one-way heading west. As I proceeded to go straight, the car to the right of me made a left-hand turn in front of me. Two days earlier, my wife was driving in front of the courthouse when someone turned around in front of her and came right at her against the one-way.
Just imagine that you were sitting in on a city planning meeting that was designing a community. The plan was to make all the streets the same size except for a couple major arteries. Then they decided to divide the city with three one-way streets running right through the middle of the community — two going east and one going west. Would that make sense?
The one-way set-up that we have is totally confusing, not only for guests to our community, but residents as well. I would be willing to bet that a majority of us in Mitchell have driven the wrong way on a one-way at some time in our life time. If it is so wonderful, why not turn all the streets to one-way? To me, it does not seem logical, and I would encourage us to make the change.
