SIOUX FALLS (AP) — A candidate for the South Dakota House of Representatives has been cited for driving under the influence and driving carelessly after allegedly hitting a 7-year-old girl on a bicycle in a crosswalk.

Sioux Falls police spokesman Sam Clemens tells the media that 32-year-old Carmen Toft was cited after the collision at an intersection a week ago. Toft declined comment to the newspaper.

Clemens says the child was taken to a hospital to be checked for possible internal injuries.

Toft works for Planned Parenthood. She is one of two Democrats running for the state House in District 10.
