HOT SPRINGS — The Parkston High School girls’ golf team shot a first-round total of 326 Monday at the Class A girls’ state golf tournament in Hot Springs.
The team leads the tournament, which concludes today, by eight strokes.
“The team competition is one of those things where it happens when all your girls are golfing really well,” Parkston coach Eric Norden said. “We’re probably sitting where we need to be.
“It just shows how balanced the team is and how important each team member is.”
Sydney Bormann had the best round for Parkston with a 77. She trails Hot Springs’ Cassidy Vollmer by one stroke for the lead.

Parkston has five golfers in the first four flights, which Norden said he was pleased with.
“We’re right there with all the girls,” he said. “I think they can all do a little better.”
Norden said with the eight-stroke lead, his team needs to stay focused to bring home a title.
“We’ve just got to play our game and not worry about what everyone else is doing,” he said.
Wagner’s Devon Brecke is in 17th place after scoring an 89 in the first round. Her team is in 11th after a first-round total of 418.
Chamberlain’s score of 472 has them in 15th place in the team standings.
Competition concludes today in Hot Springs.
