Verizon Wireless will expand its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Mitchell starting Thursday, enabling customers in more areas of South Dakota to take advantage of the nation’s largest 4G LTE network.

The company also will expand its 4G LTE footprint in 10 other markets currently with Verizon Wireless 4G LTE service and introduce the network in 28 new markets the same day. With the new and expanded markets, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network will be available in a total of 258 markets, covering more than two-thirds of the U.S. population. The expanded 4G coverage area will now be available in Mitchell and west along Interstate 90 to Kimball. Additional cities included in the launch are Draper, Mount Vernon, Murdo, Plankinton, Vivian and White Lake.

“The expansion of our 4G LTE network in the Mitchell area demonstrates our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with the best network, products and services available,” said Seamus Hyland, president, Great Plains Region, Verizon Wireless.

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
