To the Editor:
In the article from Saturday the 28th, “Drive-Ins still reign supreme,” one drive-in was left off your list. Moe’s Place, in Lake Andes, was not included in your listing.
Moe’s Place is a seasonal drive-in that has been operated as Moe’s Place for the last 10 years. Back when it was built in the early 1950s, it was actually a Dairy Queen franchise. Over the 50-plus years, it has changed ownership a few times, gone from a drive-in to having room for 20 people to dine in, and has a large take-out clientele.
As was noted in your article, nostalgia is an important part of the service. Many people who grew up eating at the Dairy Queen as young people now stop and reflect on how it has changed since they were last here. We have had customers from as far away as Germany who stopped on their way to the Sturgis Rally, and Moe’s is a stop on the list for campers from Fort Randall campgrounds.
I hope that if another article is written about drive-ins, we will be included as The Daily Republic is available there every day for our customers.
