BRANDON — The Mitchell boys’ tennis team was interrupted Friday by rainy weather at the Eastern South Dakota Conference match in Brandon.

The Kernels were able to get through all of their singles matches, but heavy rain prevented them from finishing their doubles matches.

Play is set to resume at 9 a.m. today in Brandon.

In singles, No. 1 Jacob Cersosimo took fourth place.

No. 2 Beau Brown came in third place, No. 3 Taylor Moore finished in fourth place, No. 4 Kanin Nelson took sixth place, No. 5 Tate Crago took third place and No. 6 Alex Hegg came in second place.

“We had a great day, we really, really did,” boys’ tennis coach Pat Moller said. “I was very pleased with the way we were playing, and I couldn’t be prouder of the boys. They came out with a lot of bounce in their step and it was just a lot of fun to watch.”

Today, the Kernels will resume with their doubles matches.

The No. 1 doubles team of Moore and Cersosimo have two matches left to play, No. 2 doubles Hegg and Nelson will play for fifth place against either Aberdeen or Brookings and the No. 3 doubles, Brown and Brenden Lehr, will continue their match against Watertown.

“It seemed like they just started to execute on everything I’ve told them to do all year on (Friday),” Moller said.

“It was kind of a bummer that we got interrupted by rain, but hopefully we can pick up where we left off.”

Moller said team points were not available when the rain came, and full results will be available after today’s conclusion of the meet.
