SD Guard soldiers returning to Pierre on Saturday

PIERRE (AP) — A ceremony to honor returning South Dakota National Guard soldiers from Afghanistan has been scheduled for Saturday in Pierre.

PIERRE (AP) — A ceremony to honor returning South Dakota National Guard soldiers from Afghanistan has been scheduled for Saturday in Pierre.

According to media reports, members of the 200th Engineering Company are scheduled to arrive by plane in Sioux Falls from Fort Dix, N.J., early Saturday morning. They will then take a bus to the Pierre area to take part in a parade and deactivation ceremony.

According to media reports, Gov. Dennis Daugaard, Adjutant General Timothy Reisch, Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill and Fort Pierre Mayor Sam Tidball will speak at the ceremony.

The 200th is based in Pierre with detachments in Mobridge and Chamberlain. It has about 180 soldiers. They were deployed last May for a yearlong mission of bridge work.
