Greenway breaks MHS record in long jump event

SIOUX FALLS — Despite the rainy conditions Friday, Jason Greenway broke the Mitchell High School long jump record at the University of Sioux Falls Relays in Sioux Falls.

Greenway broke the record with a leap of 22 feet, 10 inches. The previous record was 21-feet-1.75 set by Sandy Milne in 1955.

ESD golf meet postponed

The Eastern South Dakota Conference golf meet was scheduled to be held Saturday in Watertown but was postponed because of inclement weather.

The meet was moved to 10 a.m. Tuesday in Watertown. The Kernels, along with the other seven ESD teams, will compete.

GPAC golf qualifier moved

The fourth men’s Great Plains Athletic Conference qualifier was moved from Wild Oak Golf Course in Mitchell to Prairie Green Golf Club in Sioux Falls because of the hail storm that went through Mitchell Saturday.

GPAC Commissioner Corey Westra and Dakota Wesleyan University golf coach Adam Anderson announced the change over the weekend.

All teams tee off between 10 and 11:12 a.m. at Prairie Green.

DWU is in sixth in the team conference standings. Individually for the Tigers, junior Travis Johnson is in fourth.

Bon Homme rallies to victory

TABOR — Kodi Larson had five hits including a walk-off single as Bon Homme’s high school baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Beresford 10-9 Sunday in Tabor.

Larson stole three bases in the game and Blasé Venecek added three hits in the win for Bon Homme.

Sawyer Fridrich got the win in relief, pitching two innings and striking out four.

Bon Homme (6-4) hosts Dakota Valley at 5 p.m. today in Tabor.

Parkston Mudcats drop opener

DELL RAPIDS — In their first game of the season, the Parkston Mudcats amateur baseball team lost 2-0 to the Dell Rapids Mudcats Sunday in Dell Rapids.

Luke Tiesler suffered the loss on the mound. Tiesler threw three innings and gave up two runs on four hits and a walk. He struck out three.

Brady Nolz was the only Parkston player with multiple hits as he recorded two singles. He also pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Parkston (0-1) takes on Avon at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Avon.

Raptors beat Canova 3-1 in amateur action

EMERY — The Dimock/Emery amateur baseball team defeated Canova 3-1 Sunday.

Phil Johnson picked up the win in relief, throwing five innings and allowing two hits, no runs and two walks. He struck out four. The Raptors’ Matt Luckey started and threw four innings and allowed two hits and one run. He struck out two.

Jared Hegdahl threw three innings for Canova and took the loss, giving up all three runs. Jared Donahue got the start for Canova, throwing two innings.

Sam Pischke had one hit and two RBIs for the Raptors, and Jeremy Zens had two singles.

Dimock/Emery plays at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Irene next.
