Q: Does the city of Mitchell maintain a site where residents can dispose of old and unused prescription drugs?

A: There is a prescription container located in the lobby of the Mitchell Public Safety Building at the south end of downtown, according to Detective Lt. Don Everson.

“We partner with the James Valley Drug Task Force to provide a mailbox-type drop-off where old prescription drugs can be disposed of,” Everson said.

Other drop-off boxes are located at sheriff’s offices in Davison, Hanson, Aurora and Sanborn counties.

Medication in pill form may be dropped off at the sites. No liquid medication or syringes may be included.

Everson said anyone can come in to drop off old or unused prescriptions drugs, and they will be taken with no questions asked.
