Rapid City man gets 75 years in prison for child sex abuse

RAPID CITY (AP) — A Rapid City man facing multiple sex crime charges has been sentenced to 75 years in prison.
Authorities say 44-year-old Michael Readd abused a child over a nine-year period. He pleaded guilty to several counts and prosecutors dropped several others. Readd will be eligible for parole after 22 ½ years.
Circuit Judge Janine Kern told Readd in court that he was "a danger to children ... and this community." Defense attorney Paul Brankin said Readd needs therapy, but Brankin was unsuccessful in seeking less than the maximum sentence.
