SIOUX FALLS (AP) — The U.S. Attorney's Office is hosting a civil rights conference in Sioux Falls on Monday.
Speakers for the afternoon event include assistant attorney general Tom Perez of the U.S. Justice Department's civil rights division and Judy Shepard, the president and co-founder of the Matthew Shepard Foundation.
Also speaking are Andre Oliver, president of the Sioux Falls Diversity Council, and J.R. LaPlante, South Dakota's secretary for tribal relations.
Topics include the rights of persons with disabilities, human trafficking and child exploitation, bullying and discrimination in schools and police and the community.
The event starts at 1 p.m. at the Washington Pavilion.
