SIOUX FALLS (AP) — A Brandon woman indicted for attempted murder after trying to smother to death another patient at a veteran's hospital told an investigator that "voices" told her to do it.

Sixty-three-year old Jean Rollinger was indicted in federal court this week for attempting to smother a 63-year-old man at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls in March. According to media reports, Rollinger made an initial court appearance Thursday.

At the hearing, a special agent with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs described how Rollinger had told him that she became agitated with a fellow patient using a walker. Rollinger told the agent that "voices" told her to hit the man with the walker and smother him with a pillow.

Rollinger's lawyer says he might pursue an insanity defense.
