Kyle Mathis signs to play at DWU

The Winner High School boys’ basketball team has made three consecutive trips to the Class A state tournament, thanks in large part to Kyle Mathis.
On Wednesday afternoon, Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball coach Shane Murphy announced that Mathis will continue his basketball career as a member of the Tigers’ squad.
Murphy also announced three other recruits including Clint Roy, a junior transfer from Glendale Community College in Glendale, Ariz.
The other two recruits are Jon Alford, of Naper, Neb., and Matt Appel, of Fulda, Minn.
High school golfer gets a hole-in-one

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Jevon Hohn, a sophomore on the Wessington Springs High School golf team, hit a hole-in-one Monday evening.
The 16-year-old Hohn made the shot on the 122-yard fourth hole at Springs Country Club in Wessington Springs.
Wesleyan football adds five recruits

Head coach Ross Cimpl announced five new recruits for the Dakota Wesleyan University football team Wednesday.
Sam Kiger, Jon Knight, Aaron Ronne, Levi Sheldon and Michael Brown will join the Tigers, who have 42 newcomers joining the team this fall.
Kiger and Ronne are both South Dakota natives. Kiger joins DWU from Irene-Wakonda High School while Ronne is from Castlewood.
Mitchell native earns GPAC POTW

In eight games last week, Mount Marty baseball player Jason Schmidt posted a .357 batting average with four homeruns and 12 RBIs.
Those numbers were good enough to earn the Mitchell native the Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball position player of the week.
Schmidt also pitched seven innings last week for the Lancers, striking out eight hitters while giving up two hits and one earned run.
SD wrestling team finishes well in Iowa tournament

Seven Parkston wrestlers competed in a middle school national dual wrestling tournament April 13-14 in Des Moines, Iowa.
The team, which consisted of 28 wrestlers, placed third in its pool and had the top placing among the three South Dakota teams in the tournament.
The wrestlers from Parkston included Alec Hohn, Noah Reichert, Anthony Buchmann, Austin Ripp, Kyler Holzbauer, Logan Mahoney and Blake Bietz. Bietz went 7-1 at the tournament.
Ryan Holzbauer and Bill Bietz coached the team at the event.
