Buitenbos leads Honkers past St. Thomas More
RAPID CITY — The Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake Honkers defeated St. Thomas More 4-1 Sunday at McKeague Field in Rapid City.
PGDCWL’s Michael Buitenbos threw seven innings and allowed three hits and one run. He walked one and struck out seven.
Trey DeHaan had two hits with a double, Jon Hoeksema had two hits and an RBI, and the Honkers finished with six hits.
PGDCWL (2-1) hosts Winner at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Platte.
Wesleyan takes sixth at GPAC qualifier No. 3
The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golf team took sixth place at the third Great Plains Athletic Conference qualifier Monday.
DWU shot a 313, which was 22 shots behind first-place Nebraska Wesleyan.
The Tigers’ Travis Johnson tied for eighth individually, carding a 74. Rory Doll, of NWU, shot a 66 to take top medalist honors.
After three conference qualifiers, DWU is in sixth place and 41 shots out of first place. Johnson is tied for fourth individually after thee GPAC meets, only five shots out of first place.
Other golfers to compete Monday were Austin Hieb (78), Josh Korn (79), Kyle Higgins (82) and Broderick Baker (86).
The final GPAC qualifier is on May 7 at Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell.
