Mitchell relay team sets school record

PIERRE — The Mitchell High School track team set a school record at the Pierre American Region Relays Friday.

The boys’ mile relay team, consisting of Nick Kummer, Austin Loes, Jade Miller and Jason Greenway, broke a school record, finishing with a time of 3 minutes, 23.38 seconds. The previous record was 3:26.64 and was held by Jason and Justin Greenway and Turner and Tyler Volesky.

“That was the highlight of the meet for us,” Mitchell coach Geoff Gross said. “We broke the school record by over 3 seconds, so that was really fun to see.”

Amy Gaetze, Kristin Pistulka, Jesse Volek and Berkley Rietveld made up the girls’ 1,600-meter sprint medley, which also grabbed a first-place finish with a time of 4:27.56.

“It was just an absolutely great day,” Gross said. “The weather was beautiful, there was no wind and it was just a really good day.”

Jason Greenway also took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.94 seconds and finished first in the 300 with a time of 39.42 seconds.

“We had great performances up and down the lineup,” Gross said.
