LETTER: Don’t take the Corn Palace polka event away from us
The city will really miss us and we will miss all our friends and the fun we had at the Corn Palace every year.By: Janice Barker , Westminster, Colo.
To the Editor:
It has been a big concern of mine that after so many long years, the Polka Festival is ending. Mother and myself made 19 straight strips out of 25-plus years.
Arlee William and myself looked so forward to help carry trays for the senior citizens of Mitchell. We enjoyed our relatives coming from the nursing homes to join us.
We always stayed for five nights, eating and staying at Motel 6. We always had to book our rooms six to nine months ahead of time.
Nine years ago, we let Cal Schultz carry the South Dakota flag. He did it with a lot of pride and the help of myself. God bless him; he will be missed by everyone.
I hope you can consider having the Senior Day and the three-day Polka Festival again this year. We could use the upstairs floor if that is a big concern.
The city will really miss us and we will miss all our friends and the fun we had at the Corn Palace every year.
