Rapid City Guard unit to deploy to Afghanistan in 2013

RAPID CITY (AP) — A South Dakota National Guard unit put an alert last fall for possibly duty overseas will be sent to Afghanistan early next year.

RAPID CITY (AP) — A South Dakota National Guard unit put an alert last fall for possibly duty overseas will be sent to Afghanistan early next year.

The Guard says the Rapid City-based 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment will be mobilized in February 2013. The 20 soldiers first will report to Fort Dix in New Jersey for final training.

The detachment has both print and broadcast journalists who help tell stories about the military.
