The recent theft of his prized tricycle may have handed stroke victim Bill Loring a few lemons, but students at Mitchell’s L.B. Williams Elementary School hope to use them to make some lemonade today.
Loring, of Sioux Falls, who was featured on a recent TV newscast, has lost three tricycles to thieves over the years.
Stacy Morgan, a fifth-grade teacher at L.B. Williams, said her students were moved by Loring’s plight and quickly developed a plan to raise about $350 to help replace Loring’s trike, which cost about $500.
“They just decided they wanted to raise money to help him get a new bike,” Morgan said.
During recesses today, the students hope to raise the money by selling lemonade for 50 cents a glass, she said. The students presented a business plan for their project to LBW Principal Becky Roth and also told other students about their idea.
The lemonade sales are aimed at students and staff, but public donations are welcome and should be dropped off at the L.B. Williams office at 1420 W. University Ave., Mitchell.
Sales will be in the school commons area in case of inclement weather.
