A Mitchell man was arrested Monday after allegedly threatening another man with a knife Friday night inside Thirsty’s Bar in downtown Mitchell.

Chet Matthew Ellefson, 34, is charged with aggravated assault after being arrested twice in connection with two separate assaults at Thirsty’s.

Ellefson, who now faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine for aggravated assault, was already charged with simple assault for allegedly punching Greg Neugebauer two to three times with a closed fist in the Thirsty’s parking lot the morning of April 7.

Mitchell police have not released the name of the victim in the Friday assault. Ellefson was arrested and released from the Davison County Jail on April 9 on a $500 unsecured bond for the first incident.

Ellefson was taken back to the jail Monday afternoon, but because he had not been read his rights as of Monday evening, jail staff would not release his custody status or bond information.
