Illegal immigrant arrested for DUI in Mitchell

A Mexican illegal immigrant was arrested Tuesday for drunken driving in downtown Mitchell.

Jose Luis Uribe-Santana, 24, is charged with drunken driving after a Mitchell patrol officer allegedly saw him speed and make an illegal turn on North Main Street. The officer stopped Uribe-Santana and administered field sobriety tests, which Uribe-Santana performed poorly, court documents state.

Upon being booked into Davison County Jail, Uribe-Santana was found in possession of a Mexican passport without a U.S. stamp on it. Court documents say he later told authorities he was in the United States illegally.

Uribe-Santana is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
