Stolen safe from Mitchell found, police seek info

The Mitchell Police Division is seeking information on the theft of a safe containing several hundred dollars taken from a Mitchell home Tuesday afternoon.

Mitchell Police Detective Lt. Don Everson said the safe, which he estimated weighed between 90 and 100 pounds, was stolen between 2:30 and 5:51 p.m. from a home on North Wisconsin Street.

The safe was recovered on the side of a roadway about one mile south of First Street in Woonsocket shortly after Mitchell police were notified of the theft.

Everson said the case is still under investigation. The Sanborn County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
