According to media reports, Circuit Judge Thomas Trimble set July 23-24 for a final hearing on Charles Russell Rhines petition to appeal his death sentence.

Rhines was sentenced to death in 1993 for stabbing 22-year-old Donnivan Schaeffer to death during a burglary at a Rapid City donut shop.

Arguments in the case have been scheduled for July 3.
