C/S/A picks up first win of the season; Outlaws swept by Vermillion

CORSICA — The Corsica/Stickney/Armour Express high school baseball team picked up its first win of the season Monday, defeating Parkston 8-1 in Corsica.

CORSICA — The Corsica/Stickney/Armour Express high school baseball team picked up its first win of the season Monday, defeating Parkston 8-1 in Corsica.

Dustin Bultje got the start on the mound for the Ex-press. He went four innings and allowed four hits and one unearned run. He struck out three Parkston hitters.

Bultje helped himself out, recording two RBIs in the game. Aaron Groeneweg also drove in two and Ryan Hongslo crossed the plate three times for the Express.

Spencer Lucas started for Parkston. He went three innings and gave up three runs on six hits while striking out three.

C/S/A improves to 1-2 on the season and hosts Wagner Thursday in Corsica.

Outlaws swept by Vermillion

MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon-Plankinton-Woonsocket high school baseball team was unable to bounce back from its 4-2 extra-innings loss in the first game of a double-header Monday, falling 8-4 in game two to get swept by Vermillion.

Cody London got the start in game one for the Outlaws and pitched seven innings. London came out with the game tied at 2. Brian Ver-meulen came in relief.

Vermeulen took the loss on the mound as the Tan-agers were able to cross the plate twice in the ninth in-ning and didn’t allow the Outlaws (3-3) to come back in the bottom half of the in-ning.

Nathan Garrett picked up the win in the first game. He didn’t allow any runs in his four innings of work.

Vermeulen took the mound to start game two for the Outlaws and finished with another loss. No other stats were reported.

The Outlaws return to ac-tion Friday, when they host Beresford/Centerville.
