The City of Mitchell will hold a special collection of furniture and appliances only during the week of April 16-20.
These items will be collected on your regular garbage collection day during that week.
For example, if a resident’s normal day for garbage collection is Wednesday, any furniture or appliances would be placed on the curbside that day. A separate city crew will collect those items on that day.
During that week, the City of Mitchell will be collecting oversized items set out on the curb. Collection of the furniture and appliances will be curbside only.
The city will not collect anything other than furniture or appliances.
During cleanup week, city residents will be able to dump pickup-sized loads at the landfill free of charge. Items that will be excluded are: tires, special wastes and waste from commercial vehicles. Batteries and propane tanks will be accepted at the landfill office for recycling free of charge. Televisions, computer monitors, cell phones and other electronic items can be recycled at Dependable Sanitation located at the old landfill, 2801 E. Havens, for a slight fee.
Extended landfill hours will be held during cleanup week. The hours are: Monday and Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Tuesday and Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, April 14, the landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The compost drop-off site at 1405 W. Eighth is open from 5 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. April through October.
Materials accepted at the drop off site are grass clippings, leaves, garden vines and other soft compostable items. Tree branches are not accepted.
