LETTER: Intellectual faith won’t save anyone
To the Editor: Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ; for it is the power of God unto Salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first and also the Greek.”By: John Shaw, Mitchell
To the Editor:
Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ; for it is the power of God unto Salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first and also the Greek.”
Ephesians 2:8: “For by grace are ye saved through faith.”
What kind of faith is saving faith? A merely intellectual faith will never save anyone. A faith that does not convict you of sin and lead you to repentance and transform your life is not the faith of the New Testament. A faith that does not change your heart and your worldly appetites and desires is not saving faith.
The modern churches are full of intellectual belief which produces no fruit and whose works are dead. Conversion faith is a faith that reaches down to the very roots of your secret being and purifies the hidden springs of your existence.
It is a faith which compels you to do things in the face of ridicule and scorn in order that you may be identified with Jesus Christ whom to know is life eternal.
This kind of faith has in it the element of committal. It means leaning with all your weight on Jesus Christ. It means majoring your all in the atoning blood of the Lamb. It means staking everything on the word of a faithful God.
Fools, evolutionists and atheists will come and go, but God and his word, the Bible, are eternal.
Praise the Lord. Jesus saves.
