To the Editor:
In February we set a record for the largest budget deficit in our history. We spent $229 billion more than we brought in. Forty-two cents of every dollar we currently spend are borrowed. Our per capita debt now exceeds that of Greece.
Most of this debt is the result of removing Glass-Steagall as law in 2000, resulting in trillions of dollars of Wall Street gambling losses only to be bailed out on the back of the common people with more debt, taxes and inflation.
It’s the financial transactions that are destroying the world economy. There are trillions of dollars of speculative gambling that are sucking real wealth out of the economy; these trillions make nothing. Most of this activity was completely illegal 20 years ago. Now the taxpayers are forced to guarantee the gambling losses of these Wall Street crooks. Only the re-instatement of Glass-Steagall can right this wrong and prevent economic collapse. Then build NAWAPA and the transcontinental mag-lev train system, employing millions in productive jobs.
Also, Rep. Walter Jones from North Carolina has introduced House Concurrent Resolution 107 which puts Obama on notice that offensive military force without congressional authorization constitutes an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor. Every congressman must co-sponsor this resolution now. Go to your congressman’s district office or call their staff, attend their town hall meetings, organize overwhelming support for this resolution — such a mass movement against Obama could be the only thing standing between us and World War III. Get involved now before it’s too late. Like our forefathers, it is our future we fight for.
