MITCHELL (AP) — Charges against a Mitchell man accused in a crash that killed a 9-year-old girl are more severe because he's accused of a third drunken driving offense.

A driver's first two DUI convictions are misdemeanors under South Dakota law, but Minnehaha County prosecutor Aaron McGowan tells the media that a third in 10 years is a felony with a maximum punishment of two years in prison.

Forty-six-year-old Michael Sedlmeier of Mitchell faces five felonies including third-offense drunken driving and a vehicular homicide charge with a maximum punishment of 15 years in the Saturday crash that killed Iszabella Morgan. His preliminary hearing is April 5. Sedlmeier pleaded guilty to DUI in 2004 and 2005.

Mitchell School Superintendent Joe Graves says counselors are on hand for classmates of Bella, whose funeral is Thursday.
