Races arise for county treasurer and school board

With today’s deadline to file candidacies for local offices looming, the following petitions have been submitted for Davison County and Mitchell School District offices ahead of the June 5 primary and Nov. 6 general election:
• State’s Attorney Pat Smith, a Democrat, has filed for re-election.
• Incumbent Davison County Treasurer Brenda Veldheer will face challenger Christie Gunkel in a Republican primary election.
• District 1 County Commissioner Kimberly Weitala and District 4 Commissioner Denny Kiner, both Republicans, and District 2 Commissioner Jerry Fischer, a Democrat, have no challengers to date.
• Incumbents Neil Putnam and Theresa Kriese have submitted petitions to run for re-election to the Mitchell Board of Education, and petitions for the two open seats have also been filed by Ed Potzler and Craig Guymon.
