MITCHELL (AP) — Bond has been set at $250,000 for a man accused of drunken driving and fleeing police after a crash that killed 9-year-old Iszabella Morgan.
Police say the accident happened downtown near Mitchell's police headquarters on Saturday after 46-year-old Michael Sedlmeier was seen speeding on Main Street.
Authorities say Sedlmeier refused to stop, and he crashed into a sport utility vehicle with six people in it. Morgan was a passenger in the SUV and was killed. The five other people were taken to hospital.
Sedlmeier is charged with vehicular homicide and battery, drunken driving and running from police.
According to media reports, Sedlmeier's bond was set at $250,000 by a lay magistrate Monday morning via video-conference. He remains in custody at the Davison County Jail.
