The South Dakota Lottery reports the Huron buyer matched the first five numbers in Friday's Mega Millions drawing. The player became one of 39 people nationwide to win a $250,000 prize.
If the Huron player had matched the "Mega Ball" number, he or she would have hit a $290 million jackpot.
The odds of winning $250,000 in the Mega Millions drawing are one in 3.9 million. The odds of hitting the big prize are about one in 176 million.
The Mega Millions jackpot is now growing to $356 million for Tuesday's drawing.
