Clarence Hainy, of Mitchell, was honored Feb. 18 by the Resurgam Lodge No. 31, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, for 50 years of membership.

Hainy said receiving his 50-year pin was special.

“It meant a lot to me, because I didn’t realize I had been in there that long, and it was kind of a surprise,” Hainy said.

Hainy said he joined the Masons to become a Shriner, because the Shriners hold a circus every year and are responsible for helping the many visitors at the Corn Palace during the circus. “And I thought maybe someday I’ll be old and need some help,” he said with a smile. Hainy will soon celebrate his 90th birthday.
