A 33-year-old Mitchell man was arrested March 13 for allegedly assaulting his wife and not allowing her to leave their home.
James Edward Brinker was arrested for simple assault and false imprisonment for allegedly attacking his wife several times in the week leading up to his arrest.
The police report on the incident states that Brinker’s wife had several bruises on her body and eventually locked herself in a bathroom in the couple’s residence in an attempt to avoid being assaulted, and Brinker would not let her leave.
Brinker told police he did not let his wife leave the residence because he wanted to talk things over with her, the report says. He could face one year in jail and a $2,000 fine for each charge.
Brinker has been released from jail on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
