A Parkston woman was arrested March 16 in Mitchell for possession of methamphetamine.

Rachael Lorraine Herman, 24, was arrested for felony drug possession after Mitchell police searched a vehicle in which Herman was a passenger and allegedly found drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.

The police affidavit states paraphernalia was found in Herman’s purse and an unspecified quantity of methamphetamine was found in a cooler next to her purse.

Mitchell police initially stopped the vehicle for a malfunctioning exhaust and deployed a drug dog after they noticed the occupants appeared nervous and seemed to be hiding something.

Possession of methamphetamine is a felony punishable by 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
