There’s still time to catch Friend de Coup in action.
Before Mitchell’s high school show choir ends its season Saturday, the group will put on two more dinner theater performances.
“FDC Presents: Viva Las Vegas” is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today and 5 p.m. Saturday at the Corn Palace, Mitchell. Advanced tickets are $20 and available at the Corn Palace box office.
Friend de Coup ended its competition season March 10 with a grand champion award at Sioux Falls Washington’s “Best of Show.” In addition to the top honor, the show choir reeled in best band, best costume, best vocal and best choreography awards, and senior Alison Day was named best female vocalist.
“To be able to finish the last competition and really pull off the kind of victory we did there, it was pretty amazing,” said Chris Miller, show choir director.
Miller added the entire Friend de Coup season has been rewarding.
“Anytime we’re able to win one, let alone two grand champion awards in one year, it ends up being an amazing season,” he said.
Friend de Coup was named grand champion at “Rhythm in Red” in Vermilion Feb. 25. It earned fourth place at Fort Atkinson, Wis., first runner-up in Ralston, Neb., and second runnerup at Totino Grace in Fridley, Minn.
In addition, Friend de Coup won best band, best vocal, best choreography, best vocal and best crew at the various contests.
Day earned two best female vocalist awards.
“Alison is a phenomenal young lady, and she’s got the voice to match,” Miller said. “She’s always had a mature sound beyond her years. It’s nice to see her being recognized for her hard work and talent.”
