SD student chefs to compete in culinary, business event at MTI Tuesday

An intense, fast-paced culinary and business competition for high school students will be held Tuesday at Mitchell Technical Institute.

Thirteen teams of students from eight high schools will compete in the fifth annual South Dakota ProStart Competition.

Two winning teams will travel to Baltimore next month to participate in a national competition.

Teams from Mitchell, Brookings, Huron, Lake Area Multi District, Madison, McIntosh, Sioux Falls CTE Academy and Sturgis will participate in the competition, which tests students on culinary and business management knowledge and skills.

The competition will be held on the south campus of Mitchell Technical Institute, 1800 E. Spruce St.

Following orientation sessions for teams and judges, the competition will get under way at 9 a.m. and is open to the public at no charge.
