Kernels beat Pierre for title game berth

RAPID CITY — The Mitchell boys’ basketball team is headed to the Class AA state tournament with head coach Gary Munsen one last time.

Mitchell defeated Pierre 55-47 in the semifinals of the state tournament Friday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.

The Kernels will take on Sioux Falls O’Gorman in a rematch of last year’s state title game. Tipoff is scheduled 9 p.m. Central time Saturday.

Saturday’s game will be the final game Munsen will coach, as he announced his retirement before this season.
