PIERRE (AP) — South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has signed into law a $4 billion state budget that will begin to replace money cut a year ago for schools and medical services for poor people.

The governor announced Friday he has signed the bill, which was passed on the final day of the main run of this year's legislative session. It will spend about $1.2 billion in state general funds in the year beginning July 1, up about $93 million from this year. It also authorizes spending of about $1.75 billion in federal funds and $1 billion in other state funds.

The budget includes the governor's plans to increase state aid to schools by 2.3 percent next year. Other bills added one-time money to the schools.

Medicaid spending also will increase next year.
