Brown County seeks report before resident begins work to ease drainage woes

ABERDEEN (AP) — Brown County commissioners say they want an engineer's report before an Aberdeen resident can start work clearing ditches along roads in the northwest part of the county.

According to media reports, commissioners decided that any work would be done under county supervision, and Bill Edwards would have to pay for it.

Edwards says the work would help move standing water from the area, with the water flowing into a nearby creek called Dry Run and onto other parts of Edwards' property.

County highway superintendent Jan Weismantel says ditches in the area are shallow and need to be improved. But she says there would be stringent slope requirements, and Edwards would have to grant the county a wider right of way for the work to be allowed.
