A 16-year-old Sioux Falls girl was arrested for drunken driving Saturday in Mitchell after law enforcement discovered her driving in excess of 100 mph on Interstate 90.

Katie Lynn Azure was arrested shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday after a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper stopped her vehicle for driving 101 mph westbound on Interstate 90 near mile marker 330 in Mitchell.

According to the written police report, Trooper Jason Brandt conducted a field sobriety test, which Azure failed. A breathalyzer test showed Azure’s blood alcohol level was 0.181 around the time of her arrest, over the legal driving limit of 0.08.

Brandt found glass drug paraphernalia in the center console of Azure’s vehicle. Azure was charged with driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, open alcohol container and speeding. She is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
