A third candidate for mayor of Mitchell has filed his petitions.
Former city councilman Jerry Toomey filed his paperwork to qualify for the June 5 election on Wednesday, Finance Officer Marilyn Wilson said.
Councilman Ken Tracy and Tara Volesky turned in their petitions Tuesday. Candidates have to obtain at least 50 signatures from registered voters in the city to qualify for the ballot.
Davison County Commissioner John Claggett and Roger Haley have also picked up petitions to run for the office.
The deadline to file for mayor or the four council seats that are up for election is March 27.
