CUSTER (AP) — A group of Custer County homeowners angry about a neighboring gun range that they say is a safety hazard will take their complaints to county commissioners Wednesday.
The county approved the permit for the Southern Hills Tactical shooting range last year and it opened in November. But several nearby residents are trying to close the range.
Bob Plaisted lives in a home across the street from the range. He tells the media that he and his family members are afraid to go in their backyard for fear of being killed.
Custer County Planning Director David Green said the range fit zoning ordinances and commissioners had no reason to deny the permit.
Owner Michael Mooney says the range meets all safety standards for berms and targets.
